Botulinum Toxin: Botulinum Toxin injections, also known as BOTOX ®, assist with an aging appearance. Botulinum Toxin comes from the bacteria Clostridium Botulinum and can be injected in muscles. By injecting the toxin, it causes the nerve cells that transmit signals to stop the muscles from contracting. This process stops the muscles from contracting and clears wrinkles. The procedure is quick and results vary by patient, but usually lasts three to four months. Results from the procedure typically show a week after the patient has been injected. It is recommended that the patient not rub the area of injection for three to four hours afterwards. BOTOX ® is FDA approved and is mainly used to treat wrinkles and smoothness of facial appearance. It can also be used to treat migraines, muscle stiffness, and eye disorders. It is a rapid and nonsurgical procedure, but temporary and should only be used for patients who do not have breathing problems.
- Xeomin®: Xeomin® does not require refrigeration and is used for wrinkles and smooth skin. This injection also carries Botulinum type A, but lacks proteins that are added to BOTOX ®. Xeomin® has a less risk of allergies than Botulinum from the injections due to the certain proteins that are removed. Xeomin® is a more cleansed version of Botulinum Toxin. This procedure is also safe for injections of wrinkles between the eyebrows. Just like Botulinum Toxin, Xeomin® can also be used to treat wrinkles on the facial area and can be done in only a few minutes. Results may also typically start showing after a few days to a week of the treatment. Xeomin® is also a temporary non-surgical procedure and it is recommended that patients get another treatment after three to four months.
- Dysport®: Dysport® is a more natural injection that does not affect the movement or expression of all the facial muscles. It is mainly used for frown lines on the eyebrows and the treatment only requires the injection to target five points on the eyebrows that cause frown lines. This process only stops the muscles that contract on the eyebrows which allows the rest of the face to continue to have expression and movement. It is only a ten to twenty minute procedure and can last up to three to four months. Results typically start showing two to three days after the treatment.
